Southern Tablelands and the Riverina

Location: The Great Dividing Range from just south-west of Sydney to the Victorian Murray River border and north-west following the river to just east of Swan Hill.

Population: Around 150,000.

Goulburn is the largest city in the Southern Tablelands, and is dominated by the wool industry. Secondary industries include wool scouring, cotton products, footwear manufacture, heavy and light engineering, and retail. Further south are the Snowy Mountains with a strong skiing industry, Mount Kozciuszko being the highest peak in Australia.  To the south-west is the town of Wagga Wagga, located on the Murrambidgee River in the Riverina, with the main employers being Charles Sturt University and Wagga WAgga City Council. Albury on the Victorian border, across the Murray River from its sister-city, Wodonga, in Victoria,is the largest city in the Riverina. Albury is a major transport hub between Sydney and Melbourne, and known for excellence in commerce, retail, transport, health and education. It provides many agricultural support services, and has  a number of lively arts and cultural festivals. Real estate is inexpensive, with most dwellings being houses.
